Rose Inn rise above Rack Pack
The South London & Kent Pool Alliance league proceedings took a pause this week as it was time for the Founder’s Cup first round and there was only one shock in the ten matches played.
Division Two’s Rose Inn played Eltham Terrace Rack Pack from the division above, although Rose are unbeaten, whereas Rack Pack have only one win in five matches played.
Rose carried their league form into this match and came out 8-5 winners, with Dean Taylor their star man, winning all three of his frames.
Despite the loss Steven Heather also recorded an unbeaten hat-trick for Rack Pack.
There was almost a surprise at Premier Division Hustlers A as they took on Division Two leaders, Sharks, who are unbeaten for the season so far.
Sharks gave Hustlers a fright in the early stages of this match, taking a 4-2 lead but could have been greater if the Sharks had better shot execution.
Hustlers could be accused of hustling the Sharks as they went on to win by 8 frames to 6.
With the standard of play very high, there was only two unbeaten players, Adam Copen for Hustlers and Sharks’ Chris Mackenzie, who both won two frames.
After their dreadful start to the season Bellegrove will be hoping they can recreate this cup performance in the league, as they totally whitewashed Greyhound Elite, 8-0.
Another Bellegrove team who picked up a big win was Bellegrove Social Club, who are currently unbeaten and second in Division One and they played Plumstead Radical Club, winless at the bottom of Division Two.
The match went to form as Bellegrove ran out 8-3 winners, with Sam Bedingham-Pearce winning both his frames and Martin Hession successful in his only frame.
It wasn’t total success for the Bellegrove Club, as Bellegrove Flyers went down 8-4 to Academicals.
The game was a little closer than the score suggests, as Academicals won the first two sets, 3-2 but they took the first two frames of the last set to secure the match.
Gary Mason and Chris Bracey won both of their frames, with Bracey’s including a victory without potting the black, his fifth such win of the season.
Academicals sister side, Pickwick was unable to contain fellow Premier Division team, Falconwood Club’s attacking flair and lost the first set, 5-0.
Pickwick fought back well, winning four frames on the bounce, but former Pickwick player, Dean James won the next two frames, to make it a personal hat-trick and give his new team a 7-4 lead.
Pickwick ran out of steam and lost the next frame as well, for an overall 8-4 defeat.
It was another all Premier Division tie as Falconwood Social faced Crayford Social Club Rugrats and with only three points between the teams in the league this promised to be a close one.
The game looked like it wasn’t going to live up to the promise as Falconwood took a 7-4 lead but they couldn’t get over the finishing line, as Rugrats won the final four frames for an overall 8-7 victory.
Crayford’s other team, CSC Mr’s & Miss Q’s great season continues, as they beat North Heath Social Club 8-5.
North Heath’s Ian Stringer won all three of his frames but was the first to admit that he didn’t deserve to win any of them.
It was a battle of the Brown’s, as Ron Brown’s Eltham Terrace Club A took on his son, Dan Brown’s team, Glenmore Arms.
Ron’s team are sitting pretty, unbeaten at the top of the Premier Division, whereas Dan’s are third in Division One and the match went to form with Eltham winning by 8 frames to 5.
Eltham Terrace Nuthouse capped an excellent all round team performance with an 8-1 triumph over Royal Oak Addicks.
All who played chipped in with at least a frame for Nuthouse, with Louis Wilbourne, Aaron Shephard and Jon Syta all scoring an unbeaten brace, Craig Jones won his only frame and Dave Sparey won one frame but his loss prevented the whitewash.
