Sass to Dr O after watching him finally fall over the line in a county frame - I'd give you a high five - but you'd miss!

A cue is like an extension to your arm for many players. Some people keep their's for years while others replace them every 6 months. How long have you owned your current cue?

2020 Interleague

Interleague 2020

Overview

This page contains all the information specific to the 2020 London Interleague competition.
For more stuff about Interleague in general, archives, links, etc, click on the main "Interleague" tab above.

League Format

Towards the end of 2018 it was agreed by the GLCPA committee (following representation by Interleague capt's) to return to the all-teams-play-each-other-once format in 2019, reverting back from the 2-group system.

As there were 14 teams competing in 2019 calendar, several additional fixture dates were added, amounting to 13 fixture dates over 11 months!

With hindsight, this number of fixtures proved to be a couple too many for a number of participating teams.

There are 13 teams participating in the 2020 season so a few alternative options were considered, with the following format to be adopted in 2020:

Two groups of seven teams will be drawn out in the first phase. The draw will be seeded.

Top 4 teams in each group will make up the upper group in the second phase, whilst the bottom 3 teams in each group will make up the lower group.

Any points gained against a team that doesn’t end up in the same group as your team will be expunged.

So, the second phase league table will be adjusted before the second phase matches begin.

Teams will play all teams in their second phase group that they haven’t already played.

By the end of the second phase all teams will have played all teams in their own group once.

Upper group teams play for 1st-7th places whilst the lower group teams play for 8th-13th places.

The seeded draw will be based on finishing positions from 2019.

Top 4 teams in pot A, middle 6 teams in pot B and bottom 4 teams in pot C.

The draw took place at the captains meeting towards the end of January.

2 teams were drawn from pot A, 3 teams from pot B and 2 teams from pot C - these will make up Group A and the remaining teams will make up Group B.

As the 2019 team not participating in the 2020 season was in 5th position then there was a blank space in pot B, and this was subsequently drawn into Group B

This means that in the first phase of the season Group A will have 7 fixture weeks, with each team having a Bye.

Group B will have 5 fixture weeks and no Byes

For an easy-to-follow chart of this new system, see New Format Flow-Chart - hopefully this will help with any queries.

Interleague 2020 Rules summary:

  • Eligibility - To play Interleague players must already be registered in the local league for the team they represent and should already be active.
    This cannot be applied retrospectively.
    ALSO -
To be eligible to play interleague at Yarmouth you must have played 50% of available games in BOTH Interleague and the local league that your team is representing (reserve frames do NOT count). E.G. to play in any Yarmouth finals for the 2020 Interleague season, you must have played/be playing in your 2019/2020 league season, or 2019 summer season. For new players (or others with genuine reasons why this is not possible) dispensation can be applied for and will be addressed on a case by case basis.
    This cannot be applied retrospectively.

  • Player Fees (non-County) - The registration fee is £15 - irrespective if new or renewal.

  • End of season eligibility - Players cannot sign for a team in the final match of the season. This will be in place for 2020 (as it was in 2019).

If play offs are in place (not in 2019 or 2020) then players would need to have played in 50% of Interleague matches to be allowed to compete in the play off.

  • Short of Players - Should a team play with less than 9 players then no win-bonus will be awarded.
In order to commence a fixture a team must have a minimum of 5 players present.
The start time may be deferred by 30 minutes and then the match should commence.
If 30 minutes after the agreed start time 7 players in total are not present then the match will be deemed to be void, with a win awarded to their opponents.

  • Match Sheet-missing players - If a team is only fielding 8, or 7 players, the 'blanks' should be inserted on the match sheet in the following order:
Home Team 1 player short they should leave position 9 blank.
Away Team 1 player short they should leave position 8 blank.
Home Team 2 players short they should leave positions 9 then 7 blank.
Away Team 2 players short they should leave positions 8 then 6 blank.
  • For details on these and all other rules, click the Interleague Rules link in the Downloads section.

    Yarmouth Eligibility - player appearances:

Player appearances in the KO Cup will be recorded as just 1 if they appear on any team sheet throughout the day, or zero if they are absent altogether.
This now means each player will have the maximum opportunity to appear in:
    - 1 KO Cup
    - 11 League matches
Making a total of up to 12 appearances.
This should make it easier for captains to work out who has played enough matches to be legal for Yarmouth finals.

    Knockout Cup Format:

In 2019 the KO Cup format remained unchanged from previous years, with 8 teams contesting the finals event proper.
All 14 teams were entered, with newly formed teams joining the lowest league positioned teams from 2018 in a preliminary round.
In this preliminary round 6 teams were eliminated and the 6 winners joined the top 2 league positioned teams from 2018 in the finals event.

    Knockout Cup:

The 2019 Knockout Cup tournament was held on Sunday 17th March.
