A Team Captain's report: Kent 18 - 26 London
The A team continued our good start to the season with a 26-18 win away to Kent on March 22nd.We lost the first 2 frames but caught up straight away, and thanks to solid performances all round (except from the captain, I’m sorry to say) we were always ahead and comfortable from then on, without ever quite looking like pulling away for a really big win. All the sessions were won with scores of 6,7,6, and 7… which it has to be said is a bit unusual – whatever the final score, we normally have one great session and a dodgy
patch.
Apart from myself, no-one won fewer than 2 of their 4 frames, which is very pleasing. There are some very talented players in the B team who will be breathing down our necks more and more, and it seems like the A team incumbents are responding well to that pressure. As times goes on, though, it's possible that even a consistent 50% average won't be enough to retain a place.
Equally pleasing was a great performance from Joe Prince, who recovered from the disappointment of losing all 4 in the first match by winning all 4 in this one.. the only player to do so.
Surrey registered a 28-16 win at home to Sussex, who are our next opponents (also at our place) on 19th April.
