A Team report: Kent vs London 10/04/11
Kent A 17 - 27 London A
Sunday 10th April 2011
Another good win for the A team against a strong Kent side. They had some new faces who looked pretty useful, backing up three England players in Ian Hubbard, Jordan Church, and Jack Pople. It was strange playing against Jack, I'm sure I'm not the only one who found himself nearly cheering him on out of habit. Of course we wish him all the best with his new county... except when they're playing us. And the key to this win was keeping him, Jordan and Ian down to one win each.
The home side won the first set 6-5, including 3 first-visit finishes. But we came back strongly in the second, winning it to take a 12-10 halftime lead, and never looked back from then. Another 7-5 to us in the 3rd set was followed by 8 in the fourth, and it was good to see the concentration carry on after we'd clinched the win. Those extra frames won over the 23 required for a win don't count for as much as they used to, but it's still quite possible that they'll come to be crucial.
There were solid 4 out of 4s from Joe Prince (bouncing back well from a disappointing match last month) and yours truly, and for the second month running Andy Breen was restricted to 3 wins by a first visit dish by his opponent in the other frame.
After we'd finished there was time to catch the end of the B team match, the culmination of a thrilling come-back which saw London win 9 of the last 10 frames including captain Michael Clayton's tense final one, to clinch a fantastic and important 23-21 win.
The A team's win takes us clear at the top of the table on a maximum 9 points from 3 games. Berkshire and Surrey both have 6.

Rob Chalmers 2/4

Apologies for the lateness of this report. But at least there is one... eh, other captains?
