A cue is like an extension to your arm for many players. Some people keep their's for years while others replace them every 6 months. How long have you owned your current cue?

Winter 2022-23 week 2 match reports
by: Cocked-Hat, 23-10-2022 07:50 PM (#1)

Bellegrove top and bottom of Premier Division

It’s the second week of the South London & Kent Pool Alliance winter season and teams from the Bellegrove Social Club are sitting at the top and bottom of the Premier Division.

Bellegrove played Bellegrove A last week with Bellegrove running out, 12-3 winners and it got even worse for the A side this week, losing 13-2 to Bull Tavern, leaving them rock bottom on five points.

Bellegrove went on to play The Cocked Hats this week and they flew out of the blocks with Dan Heinink, Dec Kelly and Dean D’Araujo winning the first three frames, before Clive Black prevented the set whitewash.

Bellegrove skipper, Barry Barham took frame five to give his team a, 4-1 first set lead.

The second set started in similar fashion, with Heinink and Kelly taking the first two frames to extend Bellegrove’s lead to, 6-1.

It was Elliott Giles who stopped the rot this time, gaining revenge on D’Araujo who beat him in the first set.

The last two frames in the set were shared but with James Couch beating Black and George Taylor triumphant over Barham in a reversal of the previous set.

Bellegrove went into the final set on the hill, but this time could not rely on their opening pair, with Heinink and Kelly going down to Giles and Black.

The Bellegrove Captain, Barham couldn’t even bring it home, losing to George Covington dragging The Cocked Hats back to within one frame, at 7-6.

Eventually it was D’Araujo who secured the win for Bellegrove in the penultimate frame and Couch made it, 9-6 with the last

This result put Bellegrove on the top of the table on equal points with Bull Tavern and Hotshots, who also had a big win this week, putting on a dominant display to earn an 11-4 victory over Falconwood Club.

Falconwood started well, having first shot on the black in the opening frame and then winning the second.

However, Hotshots pulled away, with George Treen enjoying a break and dish against Paul Baker in the fifth to give his side a, 4-1 first set lead.

The same two played each other in frame nine, with the score at, 7-1 and this time Treen rattled the black when he was on for another break and dish.

Baker laid a snooker, which Treen successfully got out of and potted the black to give his team the match before the end of the first set.

This meant Baker had lost both his frames, having played one shot, a snooker.

Ross Webster prevented the set whitewash, making the score, 8-2 going into the final set.

Ryan Francis and Treen put Hotshots into double figures, before Akar Necati and Webster tied the set for Falconwood.

Danny Kelliher finished the game off with his third frame win of the night, joining Francis and Treen on unbeaten hat-tricks.

Webster and Necati had better luck than Baker, with Webster winning both his frames and Necati scoring two out of three for Falconwood.

Falconwood are now three points ahead of Bellegrove A at the bottom of the table.

Sharks are the fourth team in the division to be unbeaten after two games however, they are one point behind the other three after beating Pickwick this week.

The first two frames were shared, but Geoff La Porte, Vu Son and Eno Idiong won the next three frames to give Sharks a, 4-1 first set lead.

Ian Chapman pulled one back for Pickwick with the first frame of the second set however, Vu Son and Idiong made it, 6-2.

Paul Dawson levelled the set, but Alex Biggs took frame ten to win the set for Sharks, 3-2 and put them on the hill at, 7-3 overall.

Pickwick weren’t lying down and battled hard in the final set, with Chapman and Martin Storey taking the first two frames, but it proved to be a little too much to come back from, as Vu Son won the match with frame thirteen.

Biggs then tied the set, before Rob Hearn won the final frame to give Pickwick the last set and make the final score, 9-6.

Chapman was the shining light for Pickwick, going unbeaten and winning half his team’s frames with his hat-trick.

Sharks also had their heroes, with Biggs and Vu Son both winning all three of their frames.

The final game of this division saw Rugrats host New Eltham New Boys, with both teams winless from the first week and it was New Boys who recorded their first victory by nine frames to six.

New Boys are now one place and five points above their opponents in sixth.

Not surprisingly Terry’s Allstars are the early leaders in the SLKPA first division, and they had a huge win against Fox & Hounds this week.

Allstars lived up to their name, in imperious form, winning the first thirteen frames without reply.

Kerry Wyatt and Clive Forrest were the only Foxes to trouble the scorers, winning the last two frames for an overall, 13-2 score line.

None of the Allstars scored a maximum three out of three, but five of them, Tony Halpin, Nick Steadman, Derek Power, Phil O’Kane, and Dean Passer all achieved the next best thing, an unbeaten brace.

Allstars maybe the early leaders but they are only three points ahead of Duke of Northumberland in second place, who are the only other unbeaten team in the division, after a, 9-6 triumph over Eltham Terrace Rack Pack this week.

Rack Pack are only two places but one point ahead of Fox on the bottom, with Bellegrove Flyers between them.

Eltham Terrace Nuthouse recorded a, 9-6 victory over Bears to close the gap between them in third and fourth places to three points.

In SLKPA Division Two there is only one team who has played two and won two, New Eltham New Boys and they have opened up a five-point lead at the top after an, 11-4 triumph over the league’s new boys, The Con Men.

However, there are two other unbeaten teams in the division, having played just one match and sit in fourth and fifth.

Farmhouse inflicted The Con Men’s first defeat last week, 11-4 but didn’t play this week and Academicals beat Bell Ya Later, 12-3 this week after their free week last week.

After securing a narrow, 8-7 triumph over Bell Ya Later last week, Bexleyheath Working Men’s Club came back down to earth, suffering a, 9-6 defeat to Downham Tavern Terrors.

However, Dave Fulkes did his best to keep Bexleyheath on winning ways by scoring an unbeaten hat-trick.

Terrors and Bexleyheath are a lofty second and third, with just two points between them.
