A cue is like an extension to your arm for many players. Some people keep their's for years while others replace them every 6 months. How long have you owned your current cue?

Winter 2021-22 week 8 match reports

Bexleyheath WMC record first SLKPA victory

After Bears picked up their first win of the South London & Kent Pool Alliance winter season last week, it left Bexleyheath Working Men’s Club as the only team without a win, but that was rectified this week.

It’s taken eight weeks, but Bexleyheath have finally recorded their first win of the season and it was against their nearest rivals, Happy Hustlers.

The 10-5 triumph maybe too little too late, as Bexleyheath are still 21 points behind their opponents at the bottom of Division Two.

Bexleyheath Captain, Tony Hodsdon was the inspiration behind the victory, winning all three of his frames.

Duke of Northumberland remain top of the division and have developed a nine-point lead, after beating fourth placed Farmhouse, 11-4.

Second played third, as Bellegrove Flyers hosted Academicals, and it is always a tight match between these two sides.

This game proved no different, as neither team were ahead by more than two frames until the very end, when Flyers took the match, 9-6.

This put Flyers seven points ahead of their opponents in the table, who in turn are eighteen points ahead of Farmhouse.

We are roughly halfway through the season and it looks like Duke will be promoted, with Flyers or Academicals joining them however, it is not so clear cut as to who will be relegated and replacing them, as the bottom three are separated by just three points.

New Eltham New Boys were occupying bottom spot, but after beating Eltham Terrace Rack Pack, 8-7 this week they leapfrogged them by one point however, Rack Pack do have a game in hand.

Under the circumstances this was an incredibly close game that went all the way to a final frame decider.

Anthony Lee was up for the New Boys against a very good and much more experienced Rack Pack player, but he battled and fought hard in a frame that lasted over 25 minutes.

Lee was always looking like he was going to lose the frame, but his shot selection was superb, playing the right shots at the right time and laying some great snookers to battle back and not only win the frame but the match as well.

Chris Unwin did provide something to cheer about for Rack Pack, scoring an unbeaten hat-trick.

Just two points ahead of New Boys are Fox & Hounds, after they pulled off a shock victory over the league leaders, Falconwood Club.

Despite being top this is the third time this season that Falconwood have lost, 8-7 and surprisingly in this match they were never ahead.

The first frame took about half an hour, which set the tone for a tight, tense and sometimes scrappy affair.

Falconwood found themselves, 6-3 down but managed to claw their way back to level the match at 7-7 sending it to a final frame decider.

Falconwood’s Brett Crawley faced Clive Forrest from Fox & Hounds and Forrest had three chances to pot the black before doing so on the most difficult chance of the three to secure the win.

Not only did Forrest win the match but he did so with his third win of the night, and he was joined by teammate Neil Shelton and Falconwood’s Captain, Paul Baker on the same score.

Even though they lost, Falconwood extended their lead at the top to thirteen points, as Covid hit the league again with the match between New Eltham New Stars and Bellegrove A being postponed.

Also postponed due to Covid was the Premier Division fixture between The Cocked Hats and Hotshots, which leaves them in fourth and fifth respectively however, with games in hand over the teams above them.

Sharks have taken full advantage of Hotshots misfortune by following up last week’s, 13-2 triumph with an, 11-4 victory over bottom team Bears this week.

Bull Tavern bounced back from their shock defeat last week to beat Eltham Terrace Nuthouse, 9-6 and creep into second place, thirteen points behind Sharks.

Rugrats have sneaked into third place, despite losing five of their seven matches this season, which includes a 10-5 loss to Bellegrove this week.

Once again Ashley Hewson got Rugrats off to a great start, winning the opening frame, but Bellegrove would go on to take the next four, for a, 4-1 first set lead.

This included an excellent dish from a dry break in frame three by Dec Kelly, after Steve Gibson had scratched on the break.

Hewson brought that back to, 4-2 but Peter Whyte restored Bellegrove’s three frame cushion.

Rugrats’ Captain, Gibson pulled another frame back, then Bellegrove’s Captain Barry Barham levelled the set, putting them, 6-3 ahead overall, before Dan Foley took frame ten to put Bellegrove on the hill.

Hewson was playing some amazing pool and scored a personal hat-trick to bring Rugrats back to within three, but Dan Heinink secured the win for Bellegrove in frame twelve and Whyte increased the lead to, 9-4 with the next frame.

The last two frames were shared, making the final score, 10-5 in Bellegrove’s favour.

As well as Hewson scoring a hat-trick for Rugrats, Bellegrove’s Whyte and Foley also won all three of their frames.

Gibson’s scratch followed by Kelly’s clearance in frame three summed up Rugrats evening, as they felt they didn’t get the rub of the green.

Bellegrove’s win sees them in sixth place, one place and one point above Pickwick who didn’t have a game this week

The Premier Division table is not a true reflection at present, but hopefully that should sort itself out in the coming weeks and we’ll have a better view in the new year.
