Summer 2021 week 2 match reports
Rack Pack racking up the points
Week two of the South London & Kent Pool Alliance summer season and Eltham Terrace Rack Pack are riding high at the top of Tier Two West, after becoming one of only three teams in the entire league to take maximum points so far.
Following on from their, 3-0 & 13-2 victory over Farmhouse last week, they went on to beat Fox & Hounds by another big score this week.
The first two frames were shared, but Rack Pack went on to win the next three frames to take the first set, 4-1.
Alan Dolan pulled one back for Fox, with the first frame of the second set however, Rack Pack strung the next four fames together to win the second set and secure the bonus point.
Chris Parlett and Dean Rider won frames eleven and twelve to make it six in a row for Rack Pack, before Glen Ward prevented the set whitewash.
The last two frames were also shared to make the final score, 3-0 & 11-4.
Man of the match was Sam Kinsville, who scored an unbeaten hat-trick, which included a break and dish in the second set, and he was backed up by Dean Rider, who won both of his frames.
Also, in Tier Two West and on maximum points are Pickwick and they should be top of the table after two huge wins in a row, but Original Hustlers have pulled out of the league and their first result has been expunged.
This week they faced Hustlers Daves, who were beaten last week by Bellegrove A however, Pickwick were far too strong for Daves, running out, 3-0 & 13-2 victors.
Daves had only won one frame right up until the fourteenth, then Lionel White potted a brilliant penultimate ball to win the frame and pull one back for Daves.
Pickwick had two hat-trick heroes this week, Paul Gafa and Dave Pile.
Despite picking up a maximum of four points from their only game, Pickwick are only third in the table, as Bellegrove are sitting behind Rack Pack, after winning their second game in a row.
They didn’t have to travel too far for this triumph, as it was the local derby with Bellegrove A and it ended up a one-sided affair, with Bellegrove winning, 3-0 & 13-2.
Jack Taylor was the saviour for Bellegrove A, winning two of his three frames, which turned out to be his team’s only frames of the night.
The only other team who have a maximum of eight points after two matches are Sharks, who are sitting top of the SLKPA Elite League.
They improved on their, 3-0 & 11-4 triumph last week with a, 3-0 & 12-3 victory this week against Rose Inn.
Sharks had a hat-trick of hat-trick heroes; Alex Biggs, Geoff LaPorte and Vu Son, with LaPorte’s particularly impressive, as it included a break and dish.
One point behind Sharks are Bull Tavern, who recorded their own extraordinary victory this week, 3-0 & 11-4 over the much fancied Hotshots.
We had our first points share of the season, as Eltham Terrace Nuthouse beat Cocked Hats, 2-1 in sets however, Cocked Hats scored more frames, 8-7.
Cocked Hats looked to be carrying on from where they left off last week by winning the first two frames, but Nuthouse dug deep and won the next three frames to take the set.
The next set followed in a similar way, with Cocked Hats taking a, 2-1 lead, then Nuthouse won frames nine and ten for a, 2-0 & 6-4 overall lead.
Scott Reeves put Nuthouse on the hill, but they were not to win another frame, as Cocked Hats took the last four frames to win the set and steal the bonus point, giving both sides two points.
Cocked Hats’ Paul Donohoe remains unbeaten for the season, winning both of his frames this week, but teammate Adam Hewson went one better this week, with three out of three.
This result puts Cocked Hats in third and Nuthouse in sixth, one point behind New Eltham New Stars, who narrowly beat Rugrats this week.
This was an incredibly close game that started with James Pope winning the opening frame for New Stars.
Rugrats took the next two frames to edge into the lead, but New Stars won the last two frames of the set to steal it, 3-2.
Both sides took a frame each at the beginning of set two however, New Stars put another two frames together to take the second set, before Steve Gibson won frame ten to claw the score back to, 2-0 & 6-4.
New Stars took a, 2-1 lead in the final set to grab the bonus point.
Steves, King and Gibson were determined not to let New Stars run away with it and won the last two frames for Rugrats, to give them the final set and reduce the final score to, 2-1 & 8-7.
Even though this match was so close, there was one unbeaten player, Rugrats’ Mark Burton, winning all three of his frames.
There is a tie at the top of SLKPA Tier Two East after Falconwood Club beat Bexleyheath Working Men’s Club, 3-0 & 13-2 and Sidcup Working Men’s Club were triumphant, 2-1 & 10-5 against Happy Hustlers.
Bellegrove Flyers have continued their great start to the season and are one point behind Falconwood and Sidcup WMC, after a very close match against Bears.
The first set literally swung one way then the other, before Keith Smith held his nerve to win the set decider for Flyers.
Smith won two on the bounce and Jason Brunton made it three in a row to give Flyers a, 4-1 lead overall.
Bears, then strung three of their own frames together to take the second set and tie the match at, 1-1 & 5-5.
Jeff Bailey made it four on the spin, to put Bears in the lead for the first time in the match, but that didn’t last long as Flyers won the next two frames to regain the upper hand.
Gary Mason won the penultimate frame to take the match to a final frame decider, which Keith Smith won for his hat-trick and his team’s 2-1 & 8-7 victory.
Joining Smith on three out of three was Jason Brunton, who is unbeaten for the season, after scoring back-to-back hat-tricks.
Bears did have one unbeaten player, Gary Heath, who won his only frame.
Bears dropped to fourth place after this result, with Flyers one place and one point ahead of them.
Academicals have made it two losses in a row, after they were just edged out, 2-1 & 8-7 by New Eltham New Boys, who are now three points and two places above their opponents with this triumph.
