LATEST MATCH REPORTS...
The 2008 London Open Report
With a total prize fund of over £700 up for grabs, the London Open saw 60 entrants for the main event, 18 juniors and 6 ladies descend upon JFK's on Sunday. With a field that size and a decent match distance it was no surprise to see the Ladies event being the first to be completed.
London's Sarah Macmullen beat Jelena Krasnakowski in a very hard fought final by 6 frames to 5. Sarah had no answers early in the match as Jelena potted ball after ball to carve out an impressive 3-0 lead, however she somehow managed to peg back a little before Jelena pressed on to lead 5-3. Sarah had to dig deep from then on to pull off what had earlier seemed an unlikely win. Thanks to JFK's boosting the prize fund by £25, Jelena picked up £20 for her efforts, while Sarah collected £35 and the title. The semi finalists were Keely Clarke and Jen Bolton.
Barnet's Nigel Clarke took the Junior's title beating World Junior Finalist Frank Costello 5-3 in the final, having earlier overcome the challenge of Jordan O'Connor by the same score. The other semi finalist was Josh Patel who Frank beat 5-2.
In the main event Neil Toms was in no mood to leave empty handed as he played some impressive pool to come through a strong field to win the event.
