A cue is like an extension to your arm for many players. Some people keep their's for years while others replace them every 6 months. How long have you owned your current cue?

Sussex vs London - C team report

Inter CountyLondon C gets off to a flyer!

London C took a big step towards overcoming last season's demons and doing justice to its undeniable talent with a terrific 28-16 win at Sussex today. It was a hugely confident performance, I think, not least because we trailed after the first quarter, but the ridiculously exciting thing is that I know, and we all know, that as a team we didn't come anywhere near our full potential. Everyone played great, nobody who played went home without a frame under their belt, so it really was a huge team contribution, but heck, we still have some notches to step up to so who knows how far this great team can go this season.

Actually, it was quite a tetchy start, as we slowly began to find our feet and get our confidence. Openers Andre and Danish shared frames (Andre got caught in, and kept his cool through, a real marathon), Baz took us up, Ben's debut was sadly not a winner, Booney took us up again and continued his winning streak (4/4 last match), Will joined Ben in the nervous debut club, I won to take us one up again, Paul D (last season's regional C champ) had the frame from hell, Richard and Fitz both struggled as Sussex took a two frame lead, but Alan, fresh from 2/3 in a winning seniors match, won to ensure that we were only 6-5 down after that first quarter.

After that, we really did take off. We won the second quarter 8-3, establishing an 11-6 lead from 5-6 behind which really was stunning. To be fair, during that quarter we did win some frames we probably had no right to: Will's opponent skimmed a colour on the way to potting the black, Alan benefitted from some outrageously lucky snookers as he tried to come back into his match with his opponent on the black (he succeeded, too). But you have to take these little bits of fortune as part of the match, and consider them well-deserved, which they were.

We followed this with another 8-3 session, and another amazing run. By this stage we were coasting to victory, and were even hoping to win the match with a session to spare. That didn't happen, but when Baz sunk the black in the second frame of session 4, we had the match won at 23-12. That gave us a nice feeling and it was time to go out there and take as many frames as possible to make it a convincing win. In the end we won that session 7-4.

Wow, what a terrific start indeed and I tell you, there's so much more to come which we will, I am sure, see when we entertain Berkshire next month at Canavan's. For the last two seasons the Cs have rather underachieved and with all the well-deserved glory that went with the achievements of our fantastic A and B lads, we have been put in the shade. This is the year we join those two great teams on centre-stage (and we all want the ladies and the juniors to be there too).

Two players were just outstanding. Andre Cox and Baz Folkard got 4/4. Andre is always a truly amazing county player. He opens for me, and he always puts in 1000%. Today, he had to endure tough fudge frames, come back from almost impossible positions, and do whatever it took to win but he did just that, four times. Baz is another who never disappoints at county. If Andre's four were in part etched out through sheer will to win and patience, Baz's came largely through dominance and fluent potting and positional play.

Two players got 3/4. Michael Bonney is on a real roll for county right now, and Paul Dawson, the gritty anchorman, not only got over the loss of his first frame, where everything that might have gone wrong did, to win his next three, but must have enjoyed not having to win his last frame with the pressure of the match on his shoulders!

Mark Christensen, Paul Fitzgibbon,Will Gayler, and Ben Williamson all got 2/4. Danish and Paul both did brilliantly to come back from losing their first two frames to win their next two, justifying my faith in them. Will and Ben were both making their county debuts and should be very proud indeed with their contributions. As an aside to this little grouping, I need to make a huge big-up to Will Gayler for being one of the most fantastic team players and cheerers I have ever had the privilege of playing with.

Alan Day came in from the seniors to make a guest appearance for the team but after winning his first two, how could I not give him another go? He ended with 2/3 and I am very grateful for his contributions.

I made 1/2 but took myself off at half-time to make way for Tony Gear, who also got 1/2. Lee Bushell came on for a frame in the final quarter and won it, to go 1/1.

I have to choose a man of the match and I get the feeling this season I might end up making a different choice every game, such is the talent. On this occasion, it is a tough one but I am giving the prize to Baz Folkard.

Well done to everyone. It is an honour to have played with you all today. I am already looking forward to the next game with tremendous relish.

Massive win for us yesterday lads we should take great confidence from this and really push on now, like doc correctly said i believe a few of us played within ourselves yesterday and we have at least a few levels we can step up this for me is a scary prospect for our opponents but we just have to make sure now we all reach our maximum potential.
