You have the best excuse in the world for losing; no trouble losing when you got a good excuse. - Bert (The Hustler)

A cue is like an extension to your arm for many players. Some people keep their's for years while others replace them every 6 months. How long have you owned your current cue?

LATEST MATCH REPORTS...

Surrey C 24 London C 20

Inter CountyThe 2011 season started disappointingly for the C's, as we went down 24-20 to a decent Surrey side. In fact the match was close throughout the first two quarters, and we actually went into the third quarter two up, but that third quarter made all the difference. We slumped badly and lost it 3-8, which gave us a very tall mountain to climb. Some players suggested that the break for food didn't help. To be honest I am not sure whether it is best to have a break so everyone can eat at the same time or just have players eating as they go. I'd welcome thoughts from others about this, as it would make sense for the practice to be consistent across venues.

This was a newish team, though, and I am fully confident we can do some damage. The trialists who played in the match showed that they are going to be good additions. Paul Shrimpton was outstanding on his debut, winning 3 from 4 including a break-dish. Mark Christensen got 2 from 4, Mo Gulaid 1 from 3 and Charlie Court came on for the second half to get 1 from 2. Another newbie, Dean Daley, debuted for the Bs.

Paul S was the man of the match for me, given it was his debut. Also on 3 from 4, though, was Richard Chapman, who came in at the end of last season and impressed. Rich lost his first game and played poorly, but really rose to the occasion to win the next three. Andre Cox, Bruno Silva, Stacy Redman and Paul Dawson all got 2 from 4.

Last season's player of the season Mark Hester disappointed with 1 from 4 but I am sure he will be rediscovering his form soon. Shane Hutley can feel slightly aggrieved to be taken off at 0 from 2 given that his first frame was a break-dish! Michael Bonney on 0 from 2 and Mickey Walker on 0 from 1 will both want to get their winnning streaks started soon. Paul Williams managed 1 from 2.

With the new system in place there's no guarantee that these players will be in the C team for the next game, but whatever happens I am happy with them as I believe we are moulding a decent team. Hopefully we will get on track at home to Sussex in March, and if we win our remaining games and get vengeance on Surrey at home we will be home and dry. But best not to get too carried away just yet! COME ON LONDON!

My vote would be to just eat as we go along as we normally do. There was a lengthy delay at half-time and I thought it was a bit cheeky (well, out of order actually) for some of their players to use this time for extra practice.

I think their idea for the food was a good one in principle it just didn't work out the way it was supposed to! It basically turned into a free-for-all whereas it was meant to be teams going at certain times (which nobody seemed to know about). The way we normally do it seems to work better in the sense that people can eat when they want to eat and it doesn't give as much disruption to the overall match as that did at Croydon.

I also agree with Mikey that their players being on the table having a practice during the "eating" break was more than a little bit rude!

And to touch on Darren's match report, we only narrowly lost to a good Surrey team and it was just that 3rd quarter that did us. I saw plenty in the team that played to suggest we are more than capable of winning against any team this season and have a great chance of taking the Region for the C's, starting at home to Sussex next month!
