LATEST MATCH REPORTS...
Junior Team Report: Hampshire 21-23 London
Well I have to admit it was with some trepidation that I set off for Peckham to pick up 3 of the team for Portsmouth but I needn't have worried. The boys were an absolute credit to London pool and to Debbie who has shaped the team in recent years. Unfortunately we had a couple of no shows but the lads didn't stand around moaning . . . after a very brief team talk from yours truly they knuckled down and got on with the job in hand.
We got off to a flying start. With 2-0 quickly becoming 5-0 but we knew that giving an 8 frame start the match could come down to the wire. And it did. After leading 13-4 at one point we found ourselves 17-16 behind but we managed to make it 22 to frames before Jordan was up for the last frame to either win or draw the match.
It was a tense frame. Jordan didn't have the break and had to wait while the Hampshire player began a clearance but fortunately for London he didn't make it and Jordan stepped in to take the frame in a calm and sensible fashion and give London the win.
On any other day with 4/4 this would have earned Jordan man of the match. Frank can also probably consider himself hard done by as he also got 4/4 playing at number one. But while it doesn't detract from the achievement these results are expected. With his first ever county frame wins and ending up on 2/4 my MOTM is Mehmet Tango. His enthusiasm for the game is amazing and he's prepared to turn up month in month out with no guarantee of getting picked. When I told him he said he didn't care about the money - he just wanted to wear a London county shirt. Says it all really.
Subject to availability we are hoping to play our postponed Kent game on Sunday.
