The Doctor to Jerry T after being handed an Interleague team shirt with “Doc” rather than “The Doctor” written on the back: “Do I look like one of the seven f**king dwarves?”

A cue is like an extension to your arm for many players. Some people keep their's for years while others replace them every 6 months. How long have you owned your current cue?

Debutants hit the ground running

The South London & Kent Pool Alliance Winter 2017/18 season got under way this week and new to the league, New Eltham Club started with a bang, beating the Happy Hustlers.

The first set could have gone either way but New Eltham won it and went on to win the next two sets as well, with an overall score of, 12-3.

They ended up with a hat-trick of hat-trick heroes, as Gary Mason, Jamie Phillips and Captain, Jeff Bailey all recorded maximum scores.

However, this big win did not make them the early leaders of Division Two, that accolade went to Bellegrove Flyers, who scored one more frame in their demolition of Foots Cray Social Club.

Foots Cray were good hosts but Flyers were just too strong on the night, eventually running out, 13-2 winners.

Debutants had a good night, as Flyers new recruit, Mark Kelley won all three of his frames, as did Graham Lamb and Nick Stearns, with Keith Smith supporting them with an unbeaten brace.

The result in the final game of the division was not as academic as the other two, with North Heath Social Club beating Academicals by 10 frames to 5.

After promotion from Division Two, Sharks look likely to be the team to beat in SLKPA Division One, after they triumphed over league stalwarts, Bellegrove A.

Friday the 13th came early for Bellegrove when they had a nightmare and lost the first 13 frames, it was only Pat Melia and John Skuza who prevented the whitewash by taking the final two frames.

It was a baptism of fire for new boys, Bobby Brown and Wayne Tanner, who both had chances to win but they will soon realise that two can play this game, when they meet easier opposition.

Rose Inn came up smelling of roses, after their, 10-5 victory over Eltham Terrace Rack Pack.

Both Lewis Hearn and Jack Wilson scored three out of three but Hearn's included a dish from a dry foul break, so earns him the man of the match honour.

Crayford Social Club Rugrats will be looking for a return to the Premier Division, after they kickstarted their season with an, 11-4 triumph over Fox & Hounds.

Fox got off to a great start, with Neil Shelton winning the first frame but they lost the next eight, giving Rugrats the match before the end of the second set.

The final set was much closer but Rugrats still took it, 3-2.

Despite the seven frame difference in the score line, there was only one unbeaten player, Rugrats' Ian Cruwys, winning all three of his frames.

It was derby day in the SLKPA Premier Division, with all five matches played between teams from the same venue and two of those were at Hustlers.

The Imaginatively named Hustlers A took on Hustlers B and won by 12 frames to 3 to become the league's early leaders.

Pickwick, now playing out of Hustlers played the much more creatively named, Hustlers Simply Lovleh and it was very close, played in the true spirit of the game.

Martin Storey played a superb game to win frame four and Paul Gafa cleared from a dry break In frame seven, both for Pickwick but it wasn't quite enough as the Simply Lovleh's ran out, 8-7 winners.

Tony Stork, the summer season singles champion, was the inspiration for the victory, scoring an unbeaten hat-trick.

Bellegrove was the setting for another derby, with Bellegrove taking the spoils against Premier Division new boys, Bellegrove Social Club.

The Bellegrove had two debutants, Paul Cook and Steve Lloyd, who both started with a victory, with Cook starting the match with a dish from a dry break.

They went on to take the first set, 4-1 and eventually won the match, 9-6 with all seven players chipping in with at least a frame and Captain Paul Elford ended up unbeaten on two out of two.

Eltham Terrace Club A met Eltham Terrace Rovers in the first derby at Eltham Terrace, with the A team taking the first two sets, 3-2 and 4-1 before Rovers replied in the last set, 3-2 giving the A team the overall victory, 9-6.

Mark Eldridge and Paul Shrimpton were the major factors in winning the first two sets, both performing clearances from dry breaks and Eldridge went on to win all three of his frames.

In the last match Eltham Terrace Nuthouse produced a shock victory over the summer season champions, Hotshots.

The first two sets were shared, with both teams winning one frame, 3-2 then the final set was poised at two all before Nuthouse Captain, Craig Jones pulled off a break and dish against fellow Captain, Neil Hall to give his side the, 8-7 triumph.

Each side had one player on an unbeaten hat-trick, Danny Kelliher for Hotshots and Louis Wilbourne for the victors.
