Royal Oak finally get off the mark

It's taken nine weeks of the South London & Kent Pool Alliance summer season but finally, bottom of the Elite League, Royal Oak have secured their first win of the season and it was against table toppers Falconwood.

Royal Oak achieved the victory by winning more sets, 2-1 but they had to share the points because Falconwood scored more frames overall, 8-7.

Each team had one unbeaten player, Steve Heather with two frame wins for Royal Oak but Falconwood's Clive Black went one better with a hat-trick.

Unfortunately Royal Oak couldn't make up ground on the team above them, Bellegrove Social Club as they picked up their own shock victory against, Falconwood Club.

This was a match that really did swing one way then the other, with Bellegrove winning the first set, 4-1 then Falconwood whitewashed the second set, before Bellegrove took the final set, 4-1 again, for a, 2-1 & 8-7 triumph.

Paul Elford and Peter Whyte both scored two out of three for Falconwood but it was Steve Knight who was the deciding factor In Bellegrove's third win of the season.

This victory leaves Bellegrove just two points behind their opponents in the table.

The biggest movers in the table were, Eltham Terrace Rovers who went from fifth to third after beating Falcons, to go above them and Eltham Terrace Club A.

The first two sets were close, with Rovers just edging them by the odd frame, 3-2 but they eased away in the final set, taking it, 4-1 to win the match by 3 sets to 0 and 10 frames to 5, becoming the only team in the division to pick up maximum points this week.

Darren Porter and Ryan Francis were the only unbeaten players, winning two and three frames respectively and Dean Rider chipped in with a break and dish in the first set.

Rovers are now two points behind Hotshots, in second, who have closed the gap between themselves and Falconwood at the top to just three points.

Eltham Terrace Club A were in third place playing Hotshots in second and this was reflected in how close the match was, with Terrace taking the first set, 3-2 and Hotshots the second by the same score.

The third set started with Hotshots taking a, 2-1 lead but Terrace skipper, Ron Brown levelled the match, with a break and dish, to send it into a proper final frame decider, with the scores at one all in sets and seven all in frames.

It was a nail biting end to the match, which Steve Krishnan edged to give Hotshots the narrow, 2-1 and 8-7 victory.

Krishnan was joined by Tony Wilson on two out of three frame wins but Captain, Andre Cox went one better with a hat-trick and Danny Kelliher also performed a break and dish in the third frame.

This division looks like its going right to the wire, with six points separating the top four then another six points between the next three teams.

With just one point between them it was all to play for at the top of SLKPA Tier Two West, as second placed, Sharks took on top of the table, Eltham Terrace Nuthouse.

It was a very different match from the one earlier in the season, which Nuthouse took maximum points in and it started with Sharks taking the first set, 4-1.

The second set went to Nuthouse by 3 frames to 2 and the third set hit two frames each but Sharks had already scored the bonus point for reaching the magic eight frames, so Nuthouse had to win the final set to share the points and stay top.

Fittingly the two captains, Sharks Kevin Dempsey and Craig Jones for the Nuthouse battled it out, with Jones eventually coming out on top to give his team the victory, 2-1 in sets, even though Sharks got more frames, 8-7.

Shane O'Reilly was awesome in winning all three frames and Zoe Healy produced two quality clearances in her brace, both for Nuthouse, with Rahat Munim also winning both his frames for Sharks.

The top two stay as they are, with one point between them, so the two below them, Hustlers B and Crayford Social Club Rugrats seized the opportunity and recorded identical, 3-0 & 11-4 victories against two of the bottom three sides.

Hustlers B didn't have it all their own way in their derby match against Happy Hustlers, as they had to rely on Ben Creffield to win the deciding frame in each of the first two sets.

This must have demoralised the Happy Hustlers as Hustlers B whitewashed the final set but knowing them, the Happy Hustlers would still have had a smile on their faces.

Creffield went on to win in the final set to achieve his hat-trick and he was joined by the father and son duo of Trevor and Alex Biggs on the same score.

It was a similar story for the Rugrats in their match with Fox & Hounds, whereby two sets were closely contested, and the other whitewashed but it was in the opposite order to Hustlers, with the whitewash coming in the first frame.

After the first five frames, Rugrats went on to take the first three frames of the second set to secure the bonus point before the end of the second set.

Rugrats Captain, Scott Shephard won both of his frames but Adam Hewson went one better, with three out of three.

The last match of the division was between Bellegrove A and Academicals and it was the away side who got off to a flyer, with Gary Mason, Tony Bailey, Dean Williams and Jenny Pearmund winning the first four frames but John Skuza stopped the rot, giving Academicals a, 4-1 lead.

But the wheels fell off from there on in, as Academicals won just one more frame in the match, eventually going down, 2-1 & 10-5.

Birthday boy, Skuza gave himself a nice present, by winning all three of his frames and he was supported by Pat Melia, Serhat Bulbul and Steve Hughes, all taking two of their three frames.

The point Academicals earned was an important one, as it lifted them above Fox & Hounds into sixth.

Pickwick extend their lead at the top of SLKPA Tier Two East to six points, after they beat Eltham Terrace Rack Pack this week.

Pickwick's top division experience told as they raced to a, 4-1 lead in the first set but Rack Pack rallied round and reversed that score in the second set making it all square at, 1-1 & 5-5 going into the final set.

A bit of bad luck for Rack Pack gave Pickwick the eleventh frame and that left Rack Pack on a downer, as Pickwick went on to take the next three frames for the match, making the final score, 2-1 & 9-6 to Pickwick.

Chris Unwin top scored for Rack Pack, winning two of his three frames and new boy Chris Parlett picked up his first win in the SLKPA, against top of the Tier Two rankings, Paul Gafa.

There was only one unbeaten player on the night, Pickwick's Paul Slater, finishing on a brace.

Rose Inn were second but lost ground after going down to Bellegrove Flyers, 3-0 & 9-6.

Flyers were on high after recent victories and their good form continued, taking each set by the odd frame, 3-2.

The ever dependable Keith Mitchell and Paul Dawson won two of their three frames but a name we don’t normally see, Keith Smith went one better, winning his three frames.

This loss meant that Rose Inn dropped from second to fourth, with Flyers leapfrogging them into third and North Heath Social Club take over second, after their victory this week.

It was a surprisingly close match against bottom of the table, CSC Mr's & Miss Q's, with each set being won by the odd frame, 3-2, CSC taking the first but North Heath were successful in the next two for a, 2-1 & 8-7 overall triumph.

Many of the frames were scrappy with players missing chances for victory, so no one won all three frames but Kev Nankoo did win both of his for North Heath and he was supported by Ian Stringer and Brett Crawley on two out of three and they were joined by Lee Bushell and Freddie Cook on the same score.

Falconwood Club A join Rose Inn on twenty points, after they beat second bottom, Foots Cray Social Club.

Just like the CSC v North Heath match, each set was won, 3-2 but this time Falconwood took all three for a, 3-0 & 9-6 triumph.

Falconwood's Shane Burnett was outstanding on the night, winning all three frames including a superb break and dish.

Although Pickwick are streaking ahead in this division, six points clear, only three points separate the next four teams, so still all to play for.
